Byron Bay

We arrived in Byron Bay ready for some R&R.  We bade farewell to "Maddie" who had served us well and got ready for some chilling on the beach.  Once again though, the weather wasn't on our side so we spent most of our time just hanging out in the hostel, lying on hammocks and reading our books.  It wasn't a bad way to spend a few days.

When the sun did manage to come out, we hired bikes and cycled up to Cape Byron, the most easterly point in Australia (Admittedly Claire did push her bike most of the way up).  We took a walk around the Cape and kept an eye out for humpback whales as it is September/October time that they pass through this part of the world as they migrate southwards.  The whales were spotted the previous day but we weren't in luck unfortunately.  We were however treated to a school of dolphins riding the waves and doing lots of acrobatics and jumping through the air.  It was really fun to watch.

Can you spot the dolphin?

Another day we took a really long walk up the beach.  They really do stretch for miles and miles here and it was only the rain that made us turn back.  We left Byron bay relaxed and excited about going to Sydney, our next stop.
